0324 PHIA Review Update
$30.00
The Personal Health Information Act in Newfoundland and Labrador undergoes a statutory review once every five years. The 2022-23 review was undertaken to improve PHIA, particularly with the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence and the recently announced Pan-Canadian Health Data Strategy. The committee did extensive consultations to bring forth the issues that mattered most. The report made recommendations about the interpretation of roles and custodianship, the development of a data stewardship council, indigenous data sovereignty and other recommendations. Overall, these recommendations reflect modern data values and practices that protect privacy, strengthen individual rights to their own personal health information, and enable greater innovation in the health sector. The session will provide an overview of the review and the report recommendations.
