The Ministry of Health (MOH) is committed to transforming Ontario’s health system into one that is world-leading, data-driven, and digitally integrated. The MOH will share proposals for a consultation approach to identify the requirements of this system, a shift from provider to patient-oriented data architecture, and a new model to enhance data governance. Ontario has enacted privacy legislation to increase digital health information sharing, and Ontario Health is developing a patient summary interoperability specification using modern international standards in collaboration with the MOH in Ontario, other provinces, and Canada Health Infoway. Ontario Health will share more on the approach and high-level plans in progress.

Sue Schneider, BA, CHIM, CPHIMS-CA, CTSS Sue is the director of digital health standards at Ontario Health. She is certified in health information management, terminology standards, and health informatics. She has over 35 years of experience across acute, primary, and veterinary health settings; government organizations; and most recently, digital health and interoperability standards. Sue chairs and participates in a number of provincial and national committees to advance the use of standards and exchange of clinical data for effective digital health experiences. She is the 2019 recipient of the CHIMA Tribute to Excellence Pinnacle Award and the Volunteer of the Year award. In 2010, she also received the Canada Health Infoway Standards Collaborative Peer Award. Sue has a BA in social science from Western University, a graduate certificate in health informatics standards from the University of Sherbrooke, and a health information management diploma from St. Michael’s Hospital. Sue has continued as a co-instructor with the University of Victoria for the health information exchange course in the health terminology standards graduate certificate program since 2019.
Dragana Lojpur Dragana has over 20 years of experience in health care data modelling, data and business architecture, health informatics standards development, and governance at pan-Canadian and provincial levels. She is a co-facilitator for the data stewardship strategic working group responsible for defining and implementing Ontario’s health data stewardship framework. Dragana holds a BA in business and a major in computer science from the University of Novi Sad, Serbia.
Christine Sham Christine holds a degree in engineering science from the University of Toronto and is widely recognized as a digital health leader in Ontario. She has had an important role in shaping and leading digital health strategy in the Ministry of Health for nearly two decades. In her current role as the director of information management strategy and policy at MOH, she champions the development and implementation of provincial data and digital strategies to catalyze health system transformation and digital health innovation.
