Rushik Patel, CHIM interviews Michael McGill, CHIM, CIAPP-C
In this education session you will gain insight from a privacy specialist who has worked in two different provincial jurisdictions. During the interview, Michael delves into the individual’s right to know and the health care organization’s legislative duty to protect information with administrative, physical and technical safeguards – from policies to software to ongoing training for employees. You will learn about the greatest risks that organizations face and well as the essential steps they need to take to safeguard information and mitigate risk. Michael shares his extensive knowledge about the similarities and differences of provincial legislation while providing real world examples and explanations, and he offers advice for anyone considering entering privacy as a profession.
Michael McGill currently works as a privacy specialist with Island Health in British Columbia and previously was a privacy officer with the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Michael volunteers as the chair of the CHIMA SK chapter committee, and as a member as of the Saskatchewan Polytechnic HIM program advisory committee.
Rushik graduated from Saskatchewan Polytechnic’s HIM program in 2017 and is the temporary manager – Health Information Services, Lloydminster Hospital, Meadow Lake Hospital, Riverside Health Complex, Maidstone Health Complex for the Saskatchewan Health Authority. Rushik volunteers as the secretary-treasury of the CHIMA SK chapter committee.
