Description of Job:
The Assistant/Associate Professor, Health Information /Health Informatics is a Masters-level or doctoral-trained scientist who teaches at a post-secondary level. In addition to teaching, the individual will be expected to develop a program of research supported by funding from an external funding agency. If located in a university setting, she/he will also serve as a mentor for graduate students completing a degree, and will serve on one/more internal committees.
Job Duties:
- Provide leadership in research and teaching in HIM or HI
- Play a leading role in the strategy and development of the HIM/HI department
- Teach HIM/HI to students taking undergraduate or graduate degrees
- Supervise graduate students in HIM/HI or related field
- Act as college/university advisor to appropriate students
- Examine undergraduate and graduate students as required and perform administrative duties as required by the Chair or Dean of the Department
- Serve on standing committees as assigned
Education and Experience:
- Minimum of a Masters in Health Informatics, Health Information Science, or related field; PhD preferred
- Strong understanding of research in the field of Health Information Science and Health Informatics from a critical perspective
- Demonstrated record of teaching and student supervision at a post-secondary level
- Excellent publication record
- Demonstrated record of external research funding, or of the potential for a sustained program of external research funding
- CHIM certification is a requirement for CCHIM-accredited programs and an asset for non-accredited programs
