Applications now open for the Georgina Williams Memorial Award
Applications are now being accepted for the Georgina Williams Memorial Award. This award is dedicated to the loving memory of Georgina Williams, June 12, 1951–May 4, 1997.
When asked about her life, Georgina stoically said, “I am an ordinary woman with a husband and two children.” Those words certainly spoke volumes of her humble character and the way she lived her life.
Georgina was a strong, proud woman who always put her family front and centre, never losing sight of the importance of family values and community.
One of Georgina’s finest qualities was her inclusive personality. Georgina accepted you as you are; dignity and respect were a given. It was a gift she bestowed on all—a genuine “glad to meet you” that is rare but wonderful to receive. Many were in awe of her intelligence, and she was never shy about giving a voice to issues that required attention. She lived her life with honesty, integrity, and, as her father put it, “above reproach.”
Georgina took great pride in her work as director of medical records at the Waterford Hospital, where she began working as a young woman and stayed for close to 25 years. She moved to the Health Sciences Centre later in her career, when her job was reclassified. She always spoke fondly of her years in health care, and the outpouring of support, when she needed it most, was a testament to the mark she had made on her colleagues and community. Georgina has left a legacy of warmth, humour, intelligence, love, and respect.
