Kristin Krahn, CHIM interviews Carla Loeppky, PhD

An interview exploring a perspective on the current state of health information in Manitoba. 

Learn about how Manitoba’s health information professionals have overcome challenges unique to their province, how its landscape has changed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and what the immediate and longer term future may hold.

Carla Loeppky works with Manitoba Health, Seniors and Active Living as the director of epidemiology and surveillance (information management branch). Key tasks of the epidemiology and surveillance team are to conduct analyses on both non-communicable and communicable diseases, respond to outbreaks, and provide epidemiological support to regional health authorities. Carla received her PhD in 2009 from the Faculty of Medicine (Community Health Sciences) at University of Manitoba. Her research focused on international health, physician post-graduate education, and hospice care.

Kristin Krahn is a 2008 Gold Medalist Graduate of the health information management program at Red River College in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Kristin has worked with both tertiary and community hospitals, as well as a community program. She returned to school in January 2017 to obtain a certificate in health services leadership and management and endeavours to learn as much as she can about her profession.
Kristin is currently the Privacy Officer & Manager at Seven Oaks General Hospital in Winnipeg. She enjoys going to work each day and wants to give back to the health information management profession as much as possible. She looks forward to seeing the profession gain the recognition it so deserves.
Kristin has been the chair of the CHIMA MBNU chapter since March 2018.
