The Saskatchewan chapter of CHIMA would like to formally recognize Shahmad Warsame, CHIM, as the recipient of the 2020 Kathy Marcotte Award.

Shahmad is a health information management practitioner at the La Ronge Health Centre in La Ronge, Saskatchewan. Shahmad chose a career in the health information industry after speaking with her school guidance counselor, who recommended the course. She wasn’t sure what she wanted to study but she knew she wanted to work in health care and enjoyed working with computers.  

What she enjoys most about health information management is how diverse the job is and how it continually evolves with the release of new technology. She likes that she can see the importance of the work on a daily basis and how it impacts the entire health care organization. 

Some of the things that Shahmad’s colleagues had to say about her:

• She has taken initiative and strives to learn
• Her knowledge and passion for health information clearly shines
• Her main project is the implementation of NACRS here in La Ronge, which she aims to have live by April of 2021
• Shahmad is a true reflection of positive, passion, and perfection when it comes to health information management
